Presiding Bishop's Thanksgiving Message

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Blessings to you all on this, the advent of our national holiday of Thanksgiving.

Christian churches, as well as secular governments, have often declared days of thanksgiving for a bounteous harvest, important national events or the deliverance from harm. Our national holiday of Thanksgiving has been an annual event since 1863.

At this time, when we give thanks for the bounty we enjoy, we remember that every good gift comes from God. Truly, we have received more from the hands of God than we could ever ask or imagine. His grace is given freely; His mercy is everlasting.

When we seek to count our blessings on this Thanksgiving, we understand almost immediately the impossibility of this task. Just as our blessings are beyond any ability to count, so too is the infinite love of God for us. As we bow our heads on this Thanksgiving Day, may God receive the prayers of a grateful people, people who are filled with the humility born of an understanding of all we have been given.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

Your Brother in Christ,
