Presiding Bishop's Christmas Message
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
It is Christmastide once again and I wish each and every one of you a Blessed Christmas season.
Christmas is God's present to all of His creation: the great gift of Himself. This gift is offered to a world that is indifferent at best and hostile at worst. But despite all of our frailties, indecision and dreadful behavior, God has never given up on us. He has created us in love and in love He comes to us once again. At this particular time, He comes to us as a tiny child.
We might think it a great act of courage for God to come to earth as a defenseless infant, a child incapable the most basic of human functions, dependant upon human beings for everything. Yes, we might think of this as a great act of courage. And yet, perhaps God knows something we do not yet know.
If we look beyond the clutter of the time, beyond all the distractions that come our way; if we look through the many secular delights that clamor for our attention, it may just be that we will find the presence of God. It is His love that shines ever more brightly during this season of the year. It is His love, manifested in the embrace of a tiny child, that reaches out to us.
On Christmas day, we stand at the entrance of a stable. We look into the face of the child, Jesus, and a profound transformation takes place within us. For it is there, in the Bethlehem of our spirit, that we come to know, with the eyes of our hearts, the wonder and mystery of Christmastide.
Blessings to you all!
Your Brother in Christ,
+Brian
