BISHOP'S MONTHLY NEWSLETTER
May 2011

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

The following is a brief update since this time last month.

NATIONAL CHURCH

HOUSE OF BISHOPS

The House of Bishops met in Tucson, Arizona on April 26-7. As everyone certainly knows by now, I was elected President of the House of Bishops and Bishop Langberg was re-elected Vice-President. Bishop Langberg and I have always worked very well together and I look forward to working with him during this important time in the life of God's church.

Father John Vaughan has been appointed Vicar General for the Diocese of the Eastern United States. Father Vaughan will provide administrative oversight to the diocese until the election of a diocesan bishop.

NATIONAL CHURCH NEWSLETTER

Bishop Daren Williams has re-established a national church newsletter. This has just been received and will be disseminated during the upcoming Standing Committee meeting and, where necessary, mailed to clergy. The newsletter is currently available only in hard copy, but in the future will be made available through electronic means.

The newsletter reports on the Executive Council meeting and includes photos of that gathering. I commend it to you and offer thanks to Bishop Williams for taking on this important task.

DIOCESAN NEWS

ORDINATION OF RICHARD DIBBLE+

The Rev. Richard Scott Dibble was ordained to the Sacred Priesthood on May 7, 2011 at St. Thomas of Canterbury Anglican Church in Halfmoon, New York. Clergy, family and friends from around the diocese attended this glorious event. It was made even more joyous because of the many children who were present. The children had attended St. Luke's Camp and were there to support their beloved camp director. In one of the highlights of the ceremony, Emily Dibble sang a very moving solo in her father's honor. Father Dibble will continue to serve St. Lucy's Mission in West Winfield, New York.

LOIS CHAMBERLAIN

We were saddened at the recent passing of Lois Chamberlain, wife Bishop Bruce Stewart Chamberlain. Bishop Chamberlain was the first bishop of our diocese and Lois traveled with him on his many visits. She also served as camp nurse at St. Luke's Camp for many years. She is the mother of Kathy Lippman, our diocesan treasurer. Lois was a great supporter of the parishes and missions in our diocese and she will be greatly missed.

PAROCHIAL REPORTS

Most parochial reports have now been received. There are currently only two outstanding. You know who you are! If you are unsure, send the report again. Please do send them to Linnea Shaver, our diocesan secretary.

THE REV. DR. ALEXANDER HENDERSON WEBB

Father Webb, the Interim Vicar at St. Luke's has received his doctorate from Gordon-Conwell Seminary in South Hamilton, Massachusetts. We congratulate Hendy+ on this notable achievement!

CONTINUING ANGLICAN CONFERENCE

The Continuing Anglican Conference, scheduled for November 3-4 in Brockton, Massachusetts is generating a good deal of interest. Many thanks to Father Hiles for suggesting this event. Father Monroe and Loretta Steward are coordinating registration details and should have packets in the mail and online within two weeks. We are looking forward to an excellent turnout.  Agenda

STANDING COMMITTEE

The Standing Committee will meet on Saturday, May 21 at the diocesan offices, 1 Main Street, Belchertown, Massachusetts.
